Do you have any suggestions for advertising a cleaning service?

Determining your target market is key! If you're a residential cleaning service then you're likely going to target higher income homes and neighbourhoods. People who work full time are typically more inclined to use this kind of service. In this case, direct mail works well as does hand delivered flyers or brochures.

Consider offering a discount via the flyer or brochure that you deliver. By discounting services 10%, for example, you provide people an added incentive to trying your cleaning service over others. If you're successful, word of mouth marketing will serve to benefit you very quickly!
