  • What's the best way to market my art business online in this economy?

Rob Campbell

Advertising and PR | Marketing & Social Media

Old school marketing focused on sales first, relationships second. Now relationships lead every time. Sales will follow. If you want clients to buy from you - be prepared to develop a relationship with them first. Engage them. Teach them. Inspire them.

What not put on an "art history" lecture either online or in a gallery - lead with value. Invite your most affluent clients to an evening of lecture, discussion, fine food and wine, and perhaps music.

Write personal notes to your best clients, call your customers personally to tell them about new pieces you've completed, or a private showing you are holding in a chic location.

Look too at your pricing strategy - is there room to innovate there? Payment plans, financing or trade in options may help to crack open the wallets of art buyers. Get creative - but make sure you engage first.
