How do I know a home-based business program is not a scam?

If you're interested in trying an online home-based business program, be sure to read the terms and conditions on their site very carefully. Most of the time, you are asked to pay a nominal fee for the start-up DVD or instruction guide. What you want to be clear about is that you have the option to return the information without incurring even more fees.

Also look for a contact number. If you can speak with someone on the phone and ask them about the program in person, then there's a good chance it's not a scam (even though it may look somewhat questionable online).

If you decide to go the route of an online home-based business, have realistic expectations about the kind of money you will earn doing the work. They always advertise a high paying salary to those enrolled but the salaries they advertise are typically an exception to the average amount that is earned.
